Burton Albion head coach Gary Bowyer says the club is feeling the love from Uganda, where excitement around the team has grown thanks to defender Toby Sibbick’s recent involvement with the Uganda Cranes.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s League One clash with Lincoln City at the Pirelli Stadium, Bowyer noted that support for Burton has taken off in Uganda, especially after Sibbick featured in a Cranes game against Somalia that ended in victory.
“It’s unbelievable. I’m not on X myself but I’ve been told and it’s just fabulous. I’m delighted for Sibbs, who went and played one of the games and they won. They’ve got AFCON coming up around Christmas time. The most important thing for me was that he came back fit and well, so everything else is a bonus for us,” Bowyer said.
The coach even hinted at the possibility of a pre-season tour in Uganda, adding: “There’s been talk of a pre-season tour, I wouldn’t say no to that.”
For Ugandan fans, Sibbick’s connection to the Cranes has given them reason to follow Burton’s results in England’s third tier, with social media chatter growing steadily.
Bowyer stressed that the club is eager to build momentum now that the international break is over. He confirmed that the squad is settling after the transfer window, with new arrivals George Evans and Alex Hartridge adjusting well.
