Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi will continue training separately from the first-team squad, a group he referred to as the “bomb squad.”
Neither player was able to secure a transfer before the window closed, leaving them in limbo at the club.
Sterling, 30, reportedly rejected moves to Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen because he wanted to stay in London, with his £325,000-per-week wages also proving to be a major obstacle.
Disasi, 27, meanwhile, held out for a return to former club Monaco, but the move never materialized despite interest from several other clubs.
Both players have been registered in Chelsea’s Premier League squad, but Maresca stated, “Since the season started, I haven’t seen either of them… They train at a different time and on a different pitch.”
