England midfielder Jude Bellingham has been named in Real Madrid’s squad for Tuesday’s opening Champions League fixture against Marseille, marking his return from a long-standing shoulder injury.
The 22-year-old had surgery in July and has been sidelined since the summer’s Fifa Club World Cup.
Bellingham, who dislocated his shoulder in 2023, returned to training last week and has been included in coach Xabi Alonso’s 23-man squad for the match at the Bernabeu.
The midfielder joined Real from Borussia Dortmund two years ago for £115m, enjoying a hugely successful first season where he won the La Liga title and Champions League, scoring 23 goals in 43 appearances.
Last season, he scored 15 goals in 58 games as Real lost the league title to Barcelona and were knocked out of the Champions League by Arsenal in the quarter-finals.
Fellow Englishman Trent Alexander-Arnold is also in the squad. The former Liverpool defender has struggled to displace Spain full-back Dani Carvajal, who coach Alonso praised for his “competitive spirit” and “influence as a captain.”
