Football fans in Nansana turned out in force on Sunday as the Guinness Matchday on Tour brought Premier League action and a full day of entertainment to Hamz Turf.
The travelling watch party arrived just in time for the league’s return after the international break. Despite a cloudy sky and light afternoon rain, supporters packed the venue to watch Burnley host Liverpool on a giant screen mounted to the Guinness Matchday truck.
Their patience was rewarded when Mohamed Salah struck a stoppage-time penalty to give the Reds a 1-0 win, sparking cheers from Liverpool faithful.
The main draw came later with the Manchester Derby. Fans braved the evening chill to watch Manchester City dominate Manchester United 3-0, powered by an Erling Haaland brace and Phil Foden’s seventh goal in the rivalry.
Away from the pitch, Guinness kept the crowd buzzing with giveaways, a “Matchday Minutes” challenge for merchandise, and plenty of cold stout. DJ Handsome of Ssese Nation supplied a steady flow of urban hits while MC Bry P kept the energy high.
Galaxy FM’s Detacha Sakalaman added his trademark hype leading into the headline performance by Rickman Manrick, who closed the night with crowd favorites like Bango Baliwanika, Naki, and Enjoyment.
Guinness Brand Manager Denise Nazzinda said the event underlined the company’s drive to give fans a matchday to remember. “Guinness Matchday on Tour is all about celebrating the passion of the game while giving fans an unforgettable experience,” she said.
The Nansana stop is part of a nationwide campaign that will continue across Uganda through the Premier League season, blending live screenings, music, contests, and the chance to win prizes, including a trip to the UK to watch a match in person.
