Uganda’s Queen Cranes will look to finish the job when they host Namibia in the second leg of their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier on Sunday at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba. Kickoff is 4 p.m.
The young Ugandans carry a 3-0 lead from the first leg in Windhoek, thanks to goals from Sylvia Kabene, Barbara Anomo and Mary Kantono. Head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes said her squad has tightened up after a strong final training session on Saturday.
“We want to correct the mistakes from the first game,” Botes told reporters. “The girls panicked in the first half and we missed too many chances. We’ve spoken to them individually and worked on staying calm. We want team play in attack and to save individual brilliance for inside the box.”
Botes praised the home support in the first leg and urged fans to return in force. “Their energy pushed the girls to the last minute,” she said. “It gives the players hope and motivation. Let that support continue tomorrow.”
Assistant captain Agnes Nabukenya warned against complacency despite the comfortable aggregate lead. “Scoring three goals doesn’t mean we relax,” she said. “Namibia are still strong and anything can happen. We need more goals and we’re ready to give our best.”
The winner will face either Zambia or Burundi in the next round. Zambia hold a 2-1 advantage after their first-leg meeting.
