In an emotional ceremony, Paris St-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele won his first Ballon d’Or, capping a remarkable comeback season.
The 28-year-old French forward, who scored 35 goals and provided 14 assists, was instrumental in PSG’s historic treble win of the Champions League, league title, and French Cup.
The win is a huge turnaround for a player who had previously struggled with injuries and form. Much of the credit goes to PSG manager Luis Enrique, who was named Coach of the Year.
Enrique’s decision to move Dembele to a center-forward role in December was a masterstroke that saw the player’s goal count explode.
PSG dominated the awards, winning Team of the Year, and saw five of their players make the top 10. In other awards, Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal won the Kopa Trophy for best young player, while Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres took home the Gerd Muller Trophy for top goalscorer.
Gianluigi Donnarumma of PSG (now at Manchester City) won the Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper.
