The Fast and Furious Invitational Gala is back for its seventh edition this weekend, and swimmers now have more than trophies to race for.
Organizers have introduced cash rewards for anyone who breaks a meet record, a first in the competition’s history.
Event coordinator Brandon Ssemanda announced the move during the official launch at Aga Khan Nursery School in Kololo.
“This move of cash prizes is going to encourage competitiveness among the athletes to go for an extra mile, and we are expecting to witness record-breaking performances this year,” he said.
The gala runs September 27–28 at Kampala Parents School and has drawn 600 swimmers from 30 clubs.
They will compete across five sprint events: 100m individual medley, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, and 50m butterfly.
With the lure of prize money on top of medals, organizers expect a weekend of high-speed racing and record-setting swims as Uganda’s top talents and rising stars dive in.
