Matchday two of the Lyca Super Women’s T20 Series at Lugogo Cricket Oval served up a strong statement from both Bujjagali Rafters and Itanda Kayakers, who sealed convincing wins to keep their campaigns on track.
The Rafters set the tone in the morning, defeating Sipi Trekkers by 21 runs. Batting first after Sipi chose to bowl, Bujjagali posted 111 for 7. Immaculate Nakisuuyi anchored the innings with a classy 54 off 39 balls, while Malisa Ariokot added a steady 21 from 19. Former Victoria Pearls captain Consylate Aweko Nimungu and Teddy Oyella kept the Rafters in check with two wickets each, but the chase faltered.
Sipi finished on 90 for 9 as Nakisuuyi starred again, this time with the ball. Her four wickets for just 11 runs, backed by Ninsiima Peace’s 2 for 14, snuffed out the Trekkers’ hopes despite a fighting 30 off 22 from Stephanie Nampiina and 24 off 36 from Phiona Egaru Kulume.
In the afternoon clash, Itanda Kayakers restricted Karuma Rapids to 86 for 8. Kevin Awino top scored for Karuma with 37 off 42, while Proscovia Alako chipped in with 21 off 23. But Itanda’s Amuge Kevin ripped through the order, taking 4 wickets to set up a comfortable chase.
The Kayakers replied briskly, reaching 89 for 3 in 14.4 overs. Rita Musamali hit 23 from 16 balls, Ilora Joan added 18 off 13, and Mbwali Naome finished with 17 off 13 to complete a seven-wicket win.
The tournament resumes today with Bujjagali Rafters facing the Kayakers at 9:30 a.m. and Karuma Rapids taking on Sipi Trekkers at 1:30 p.m., both at Lugogo.
The Lyca Super Women’s T20 continues to offer a crucial stage for Cricket Uganda’s next generation, mixing national team regulars with former and current U19 players. It is fast becoming a showcase of the country’s growing depth in the women’s game.
