The Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) ushered in a new leadership team during its 2025 General Assembly and elections held at Uganda Christian University, with basketball stars Ekone Brenda and Martha Soigi emerging as standout winners.
University of Kisubi sports tutor and JKL Lady Dolphins ace Ekone was elected unopposed as the new AUUS Assistant Secretary General. Kampala University’s Soigi claimed the First Vice President seat after polling 61 votes, comfortably beating Mustapha Nsubuga of Mountains of the Moon University, who received 24.
Kyambogo University’s George Wagoogo will lead the association for the next term after defeating Busitema University’s Dr. Agnes Baluka 56–31 to become AUUS President, replacing Makerere University’s Dr. Peninah Kabenge.
Other key posts were decided with little resistance. Gulu University’s Opiyo Francis (Northern Zone Coordinator), Makerere’s Brian Miiro Nsubuga (Treasurer), Uganda Christian University’s Samuel Lukaire (Vice President Technical), Mbarara University’s Benson Kanyesigye (South-Western Zone Coordinator), Bishop Stuart’s Arthur Kamugisha (Western Zone Coordinator), and Islamic University in Uganda’s Kebba Helon Haruna (Eastern Zone Coordinator) all went through unopposed.
In contested races, Kampala International University’s Jesca Annet Kabasindi won the Central Zone Coordinator slot with 65 votes, defeating Makerere Business School’s Hillary Kimbugwe, who managed 21. Victoria University’s Ssebuliba Patrick retained the Secretary General role after polling 63 votes to Uganda Martyrs University’s David Bushobozi’s 23, following the withdrawal of other challengers.
Muteesa I Royal University’s Ambrose Kalibbala was elected male student representative after edging Busitema’s Sand Moses 53–33. The female student representative seat remains vacant after no nominations were received, with AUUS set to announce the next steps.
The elections were overseen by a committee that included Uganda Olympic Committee Vice President Moses Mwase, lawyer Ivan Bwowe, and Netball Uganda President Jocelyn Ucanda, ensuring a transparent process as AUUS charts its next chapter.
