Uganda’s runners delivered a statement performance at the 2025 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Canfranc, Pirineos, Spain, finishing with nine medals: three gold, four silver and two bronze.
The event ran from September 25 to 28 and marked a striking comeback for the country after a medal-less World Athletics Championships in Tokyo earlier this year.
The first breakthrough came in the junior men’s 7km race, where Uganda swept the podium. Titus Musau struck gold, Enos Chebet followed for silver, and Abraham Cherotich claimed bronze.
The junior women matched the pace as Nancy Chepkwurui grabbed silver and Felister Chepkwemoi added a bronze in the 7km contest.
Uganda’s depth showed in the senior races and team events. Martin Magengo Kiprotich powered through a tough field to win silver in the men’s senior race.
The men’s junior and women’s junior squads both secured team gold, while the men’s senior team added a silver to close a dominant showing.
The team is scheduled to return home tomorrow, carrying medals and renewed optimism for Ugandan athletics.
