Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike insists the arrival of British record signing Alexander Isak will boost his development, not hinder it.
The 23-year-old, a £69m summer signing who has netted five times in 10 games, embraced the challenge posed by the £125m deadline day capture.
“I can’t see one big club playing with only one striker,” Ekitike said. “Even for me at my age, I think I still have a lot of things to improve and learn, so for me it’s good that he’s here.”
The two forwards scored in the recent Carabao Cup win against Southampton but are yet to play side-by-side.
Ekitike stated that playing them together is “for the coach to decide,” but confirmed his versatility for a two-striker formation.
Ekitike also addressed his controversial red card in that same cup tie for taking his shirt off after scoring the winner. Calling the action “not smart,” he added,
“Obviously I punished myself alone… I apologise to everybody already, to my team-mates. That kind of thing won’t happen again.”
