Kawempe Muslim Rewards Girls’ Football Stars with Smart TVs

Kawempe Muslim Secondary School has celebrated its all-conquering girls’ football team with a remarkable gesture, rewarding each player with a brand-new 32-inch Hisense Smart TV.

The recognition came during a colorful Tuesday event at the school, also serving as a farewell for the outgoing Board of Governors. The function was graced by UMEA Patron, His Highness Prince Kassim Nakibinge, alongside proud parents who praised the school for its unmatched support of girls’ football and education.

For decades, Kawempe Muslim has stood as the heartbeat of girls’ football in Uganda, producing some of the country’s biggest names, dominating schools’ competitions, and shining on regional and continental stages.

Since 2019 alone, the school has twice won the USSSA Ball Games II, conquered East Africa, lifted the Elite League four times, and even powered its senior team to the Finance Trust Women Super League title. On top of that, Kawempe has represented Uganda in the CECAFA CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers, finishing third on debut, and left a mark at CAF youth tournaments.

Head teacher of Kawempe Muslim, while explaining the reward, said the players’ efforts had brought the school unmatched pride.

“These girls have lifted our name not only in Uganda but across the continent. They deserve every bit of this recognition,” he noted, adding that the school will also upgrade its football grounds to further support talent development.

Parents shared their gratitude, pointing out how the school has transformed the lives of their children.
“I pay nothing for my daughter to study here, and today they’ve even gifted her a TV. Kawempe has taken my child to places I never dreamed of,” said Jane Nakaziba, mother of midfielder Dorcus Kisakye.

Former referee Waiswa Ali, father of U16 forward Zuena Kampi, commended the school for giving girls a platform beyond academics, saying it has created opportunities that many thought impossible.

The recognition follows a streak of dominance that has seen Kawempe win the USSSA Girls’ Football titles in Kampala, Buganda Cup, and the national championships, as well as the UMEA Girls’ Football tournament for four consecutive years.

Attention now turns to the FUFA Women Super League, which kicks off this Friday. Kawempe Muslim, who finished second last season, will host champions Kampala Queens in the league opener at 4 pm.
