WNBA Star Collier Slams League Leadership as ‘Self-Sabotage’

Five-time All-Star Napheesa Collier has harshly criticized the WNBA and Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, calling the league’s direction “self-sabotage” and the leadership “the worst in the world.”

The Minnesota Lynx guard’s frustration centers on a “lack of accountability” regarding inconsistent officiating and a perceived lack of care for player welfare.

This was sparked by a non-call during the play-offs where Collier injured her ankle, leading to her ejection and her coach receiving a one-game ban. Collier subsequently missed the elimination game.

“The real threat to our league isn’t money… It’s the lack of accountability,” Collier stated, arguing that poor officiating “undermine[s] the integrity” of the sport.

Collier also alleged that Commissioner Engelbert previously told star players like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese to be “grateful” for their current pay.

Engelbert responded by expressing her “utmost respect” for Collier and maintaining a focus on “ensuring a bright future.” Meanwhile, Angel Reese publicly supported Collier’s remarks on social media.
