Construction of the Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium in Lira has reached 25 percent completion, according to State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang.
The facility, being developed by SAMCO National Construction Company, is one of Uganda’s flagship venues for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Work on the project has shifted from earthworks to the heavy structural stage.
Crews are now focused on reinforced concrete construction for the main stands and supporting columns. Tiered sections of the seating bowl are taking shape, with scaffolding and wooden formwork in place to support the concrete as it sets.
Images from the site show mobile cranes lifting pre-cast concrete elements, while mixer trucks and concrete pumps supply the material for on-site pours.
Workers are also building the vertical columns and horizontal beams that will support the upper levels of the stadium.
Alongside the cast-in-place concrete, pre-cast elements such as staircases and seating slabs are being positioned using heavy machinery.
The stadium, once completed, will seat 20,000 and form part of a larger sports complex that includes an indoor arena, training facilities, and community infrastructure.
