The IUEA Sports Ground in Kansanga hosted a lively second matchday of the SMACK League on Sunday, October 12, with goals, rain, and Guinness-fueled support defining the day.
Bushmen earned a 1-0 win over Window in the opening fixture, Allan Kalule’s early strike proving decisive. Knights and Lycans then drew 2-2 in one of the most open games of the day. Jonathan Kibedi put Knights ahead before an own goal by Emanzi doubled the lead. Lycans responded after the break through Brian Okwera and Edwin Mpoza to secure a point.
Elite recorded a commanding 4-1 victory against Blockowners, with Maxwell Batte on the scoresheet after an earlier own goal widened the gap. Pirates came from behind to beat Vulcanz 2-1, LB scoring the late winner.
Defending champions Alks found their footing again, edging Cyclones 1-0 through Aaron Kamwada. Mama Teo Legends also fought back from a goal down to defeat Mighty Zimbaz 2-1, with John Mark equalizing from the penalty spot before Francis Gonzaga scored late.
The afternoon ended under rain, but the play remained competitive. Mafiaz drew 1-1 with Vikings after Lucas Mwadha cancelled out an own goal. Vendorz beat Zuluz 2-1 through goals from Josh and Samuel Sentumbwe, while Gladiators held off Spartans 3-2. Ivan scored twice for Gladiators after Ramandah Ndolerire’s early penalty, and Nyambeya added a third before Timothy Otiting reduced the deficit.
Off the pitch, the “Old Skool Meets New Skool” theme kept the atmosphere lively, with DJs LB, Rota, and Tungi entertaining fans. Guinness continued its strong presence, with supporters celebrating with the brand’s trademark pints.
Mercy Atwongyeire, Project Manager for Premium Beer at Uganda Breweries Limited, said the partnership captures the energy around the league.
“Matchday two of the SMACK League was really great. The energy, the passion, the connection between fans and teams truly stood out. We’re proud to be elevating the matchday experience, creating a space where people come together to enjoy football, music, and the bold character of Guinness,” she said.
Matchday three is scheduled for October 26.
