England manager Thomas Tuchel has issued a strong warning to Barcelona forward Marcus Rashford, stating he has “no limits” to his potential but must prove himself consistently to avoid regretting his career.
“It’s not a question of talent, it’s a question of whether he can prove the point at club and international level,” said Tuchel, cautioning the 27-year-old that “otherwise, he will be disappointed in 10 years at what could have been.”
Rashford is on a season-long loan from Manchester United and is currently undergoing a career revival at Barcelona, where he has recorded three goals and five assists in 10 games.
The Spanish club’s boss, Hansi Flick, has called him “unbelievable,” and Barcelona holds a £30m option to sign him permanently in 2026. The move came after Rashford fell out of favour at Old Trafford, facing criticism for his attitude earlier this year.
Despite his high praise for Rashford’s “explosive” quality, Tuchel noted: “The numbers don’t reach the potential, it is as easy as that.”
The warning comes as England prepare to face Latvia in Riga on Tuesday, with a victory guaranteeing qualification for next summer’s World Cup.
Tuchel also defended his side’s recent performances, stating that despite previous criticism, the team is “a pleasure to coach” and “looking good at the moment” after an unbeaten run in the World Cup qualifying campaign.
