The 8th Edition of the East Africa Badminton Challenge officially got underway today at the MTN Arena, Lugogo, marking the start of one of the region’s most vibrant sporting events.
Over 1,000 players from across East Africa and beyond are competing in the week-long tournament, which has drawn participants from India, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, and the Cook Islands.
The event has attracted players from all walks of life, from energetic school kids and determined university athletes to experienced veterans and top professionals, all eager to showcase their skill and stamina on the court.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mahad Twaha, Senior Executive Corporate Sales at the Mandela Group of Companies, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting sports and empowering youth through ongoing sponsorship and development programs.
Twaha said the tournament’s growth over the years reflects how badminton continues to unite the region while giving young talent a platform to shine.
The challenge will run throughout the week at Lugogo Indoor Arena, with fans anticipating thrilling rallies and new regional champions.
