The JKL Lady Dolphins underlined their championship pedigree once again after defeating the UCU Lady Canons 59-52 on Wednesday night to book a place in their sixth Women’s National Basketball League final at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
In a tightly contested semifinal clash, JKL started strong, edging the first quarter 15-11. But the Lady Canons, inspired by their experience as eight-time champions, fought back to take a narrow 25-23 halftime lead.
The Dolphins, however, found their rhythm in the second half. Hope Agnes Akello led the resurgence with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists, helping her side reclaim the lead in the third quarter (43-41) before sealing victory in the fourth.
Shadia Nassanga added another 11 points and 5 rebounds, shooting an impressive 62 percent from midrange, while Angella Zainah Lokwameri also chipped in 11 points.
For UCU, Sylvia Nakituuka put on a strong performance with a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Martina Anyango and Bridget Aber contributed 8 and 6 points respectively.
But their efforts weren’t enough to stop a determined JKL side that showed composure when it mattered most.
With this win, the Lady Dolphins now advance to their sixth straight finals appearance as they chase a third consecutive league title.
