Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has welcomed minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s recent public comment that it could take three years for him to make a significant impact at the club.
While Ratcliffe’s statement was intended to quell pressure on Amorim following a sequence of disappointing results, the coach insists that football’s unpredictable nature overrides any long-term guarantee.
“It is really good to hear it… but you know, I know and Jim knows, that football is not like that,” Amorim said. “The most important thing is the next game.”
Since his arrival last November, the 40-year-old manager has overseen only 10 wins in 34 Premier League matches, with CEO Omar Berrada admitting his adaptation has taken “far longer… than anyone imagined.”
Amorim stated that he fears the sense of security offered by Ratcliffe’s words could negatively affect the team.
“I don’t want that feeling in our club,” he stressed. “The pressure I put on the team or on myself is so much bigger… In football, especially in big clubs, you need to prove yourself every weekend.”
