Uganda Premier League (UPL) clubs are set to meet this Saturday with the league board to discuss unresolved issues stemming from the recent reforms and proposed format changes that have stirred debate within the local football community.
UPL Board Chairman Arinaitwe Rugyendo confirmed the development during an interview on NBS Sport, saying the meeting aims to harmonize views among clubs before they meet the First Lady, who also serves as the Minister of Education and Sports.
“This Saturday, all 16 clubs will meet with the league board to discuss the ongoing concerns around the reforms and the proposed new formats,” Rugyendo said. “The meeting with the First Lady will also take place soon, though the exact date hasn’t yet been confirmed. All clubs will be part of that engagement.”
The discussions come nearly two months after FUFA announced sweeping reforms for the 2025-26 season and beyond, including changes to the league structure and competition formats. Those proposals have since triggered mixed reactions from clubs, fans, and other stakeholders, with some questioning their timing and consultation process.
Saturday’s meeting is expected to offer clubs a platform to collectively present their positions before engaging government authorities in what could shape the future of Uganda’s top-tier football.
