The South African women’s hockey team secured an unprecedented eighth consecutive African title and guaranteed their spot in the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup with a dominant 4–0 victory over Ghana in the final of the 2025 African Hockey Cup of Nations on Saturday.
Despite narrowly defeating Ghana 3–2 in the group stages, South Africa delivered a clinical performance in the final, taking control immediately.
The defending champions got off to a dream start, with Jean-Leigh du Toit firing home a penalty corner goal, followed barely two minutes later by a finish from Kayla de Waal to make it 2–0 inside the opening five minutes.
South Africa’s relentless pressure continued, leading to further goals from Hannah Pearce and Du Toit’s second, extending the lead to an unassailable 4–0 by halftime.
The commanding first-half cushion allowed the South Africans to control the tempo throughout the second half.
Their impenetrable defence kept the scoreboard locked, confirming their sixth consecutive final triumph over Ghana and their enduring excellence on the continental stage.
