Norris Slams F1 Track Limits as “Silliest Rule” After COTA Battle

McLaren driver Lando Norris secured a hard-fought second place at the United States Grand Prix but immediately criticized Formula 1’s track limits rules, calling them the “silliest” in the sport.

Norris, who spent much of the race battling Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc for P2, revealed he accumulated three track limits strikes early on, forcing him to be “a little bit more cautious at the end” to avoid a costly five-second penalty.

The McLaren star argued the rules punish drivers for aggressive racing, citing one infringement he received while attempting a bold outside overtake on Leclerc.

“We’re invited to try and race, but if you race too much, you get a penalty for it,” Norris stated. “I got a track limits [strike] for trying to go around the outside and losing time to Charles. Doesn’t really make much sense in terms of going racing.”

Norris ultimately finished P2, with Leclerc third, behind race winner Max Verstappen.
