Formula 1 team Red Bull Racing was fined €50,000 after a team member attempted to remove the grid position marker tape used by McLaren driver Lando Norris just before the United States Grand Prix.
The FIA deemed the action an “unsafe act” that warranted a “significant penalty,” noting the employee ignored instructions from marshals during the grid-clearing process.
The tape is used by McLaren to help drivers position their cars correctly due to limited visibility.
Half of the fine has been suspended for the remainder of the 2025 season.
Although Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies called the incident a “misunderstanding,” a source suggested to BBC Sport that this was not the first time Red Bull had attempted this tactic on a rival team.
