Former world champion Amir Khan has amped up anticipation for the potential heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, labeling it an “incredible fight” and a genuine “50/50” contest.
Despite both British heavyweights coming off losses in late 2024 (Joshua to Daniel Dubois, Fury to Oleksandr Usyk), their long-awaited match-up remains the biggest fight in boxing.
While promoter Eddie Hearn eyes a comeback for Joshua leading to a fight next summer, Fury recently announced his retirement after his second loss to Usyk, only to tease a return on social media.
Speaking via Betway, Khan insisted that the domestic dust-up is the “dream” fight the public wants, regardless of titles.
“Styles make fights. A boxer vs a puncher—the contrast draws attention,” Khan said. He noted the physical difference: “Anthony Joshua has the six-pack… whereas you look at Tyson Fury and you’d think it is a mismatch for Joshua, but that would be an incredible fight and a 50/50 fight.”
Khan strongly cautioned against underestimating the “Gypsy King,” praising his unpredictability and ability to perform under pressure.
“Tyson Fury’s a beast… you never underestimate him. When he needs to perform and put on a good show, he always does it.”
