The City Oilers will target a record-extending 11th title when this year’s FUBA National Basketball League playoff finals tip off on Friday at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
The record league champions eased past Sommet BC and JT Jaguars to reach the decisive series, a rematch of the 2022 final that the Oilers won in seven games.
Despite a below-par regular season, Andrew Tendo’s side finished third to secure a playoff berth as they look to maintain their grip on domestic basketball.
Guard Fayed Bbale says the team has put in the work to be ready for the challenge.
“We’ve practiced for a month and are getting better. We’ve worked on our loopholes and we’re ready to play. Winning the 11th title means a lot to us, and if we get it, it’ll be the best thing,” Bbale said.
Bbale added that the team’s experience will be key in their quest for another championship.
“I’ve been in different playoffs with City Oilers, and each one brings different experiences. This one means a lot to us and we just need to go out there and compete for it.”
In the women’s division, defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins will take on JT Lady Jaguars in the finals, with all action broadcast live on NBS Sport and Afromobile.
