Jonam County have successfully defended the MTN–Ker Alur Kopu Pubimu Cup after edging Padyere 3–2 in a tense penalty shootout at Bar Okoro Grounds in Paidha, Zombo District.
The two sides had played out an entertaining 3–3 draw in normal time before Jonam held their nerve from the spot to retain their crown.
The final brought down the curtain on the 8th edition of the MTN–Uganda sponsored tournament, which was broadcast live on NBS Sport.
His Majesty Ubimu Phillip Olarker Rauni III graced the occasion and handed the champions their trophy, celebrating the spirit of unity and talent on display across the Ker Alur Kingdom.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Ker Alur, Prince Ochaya Orach Vincent, praised Jonam’s determination to defend their title, commending the high level of competition throughout the tournament.
This year’s event featured three counties — Jonam, Padyere, and Okoro — continuing a proud tradition that has seen intense rivalries develop since the competition’s inception.
Jonam’s Shamar Musema finished as the tournament’s top scorer with five goals, while Padyere’s Ogondo Chrispo was named Most Valuable Player. Jonam’s Emmanuel Canpara and Bithum Lawrence took home the Best Coach and Best Goalkeeper awards respectively.
MTN Regional Marketing Coordinator Biron Malimoto reaffirmed the company’s commitment to promoting grassroots football and cultural unity through sports.
The champions walked away with a cash prize of Shs4 million, while the first and second runners-up took home Shs3 million and Shs2 million respectively, courtesy of MTN–Uganda.
Over the years, the MTN–Pubimu Cup has been dominated by Okoro and Jonam.
