The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) held a key meeting with representatives from seven sports federations at its headquarters on Thursday last week, focusing on enhancing the national capacity building program ahead of the next training sessions slated for December 2025.
The meeting brought together officials from football, athletics, volleyball, handball, table tennis, netball, and media institutions to exchange ideas and propose adjustments to the program, which has been running since 2022.
The discussions covered several areas, including class duration, participation levels, promotion systems, and deployment of trained officials.
December will mark three years since the initiative’s launch, which began at Kibuli Secondary School before expanding to other training centers across the country.
Over that period, the program has produced a wide range of referees, umpires, and media trainees who have become an integral part of USSSA championships.
USSSA’s Head of Capacity Building, Patrick Okanya, commended the federations and instructors for their consistent support in nurturing young officials.
“It is you we are depending on as federations to teach these participants, and we are grateful that most of them are now officiating during the championships,” Okanya said.
USSSA CEO Mugisha Christopher Banage also attended, alongside Ayebare Patricia from FUFA, Rukundo Joseph Ronald from the Uganda Table Tennis Association, Nassanga Zubedda (Netball Instructor), Jimmy Remie Orotin and Mujjuzi Francis from the Uganda Handball Federation, Kavuma Lawrence and Mukiibi Charles from Uganda Athletics, Komakech Innocent from the Uganda Volleyball Federation, and Mukulu Levi from UMCAT (Media School).
