CAF Confederation Cup Beckons: Aucho Proves He’s Still Built for the Big Stage

Left Yanga, But Not the Big Stage! Khalid Aucho Books Another CAF Group Spot.

Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho may have left one of Tanzania’s football powerhouses, but his love affair with continental football continues.

After four trophy-laden years with Young Africans SC (Yanga), Aucho made a surprise switch to fellow Tanzanian Premier League outfit Singida Black Stars at the start of the 2025/26 campaign.

Many thought that move might see him step away from the bright lights of African inter-club competitions – but the midfield general had other plans.

Singida Black Stars, an ambitious and fast-rising side in Tanzanian football, earned the right to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers.

Aucho’s arrival added experience and steel to their midfield – and it showed.

After navigating the early rounds, Singida sealed their place in the group stages of the continent’s second-tier competition, marking a major milestone in the club’s history.

The Tanzanian side knocked out Flambeau du Centre of Burundi in the second preliminary round – the final hurdle before the groups.

The first leg in Burundi ended 1–1, with Singida showing resilience away from home.

Back in Tanzania, they turned on the style, claiming a 3–1 victory to progress 4–2 on aggregate.

Aucho’s leadership and composure in midfield have been pivotal for Singida, much like they were during his time at Yanga.

His ability to dictate play, break up opposition attacks, and organize the team from deep positions remains a key asset.

The Cranes captain, now one of East Africa’s most experienced campaigners on the continental scene, will once again fly the Ugandan flag high as he prepares for another CAF Confederation Cup group stage adventure.

For Ugandan football, Aucho’s continued presence on the African stage serves as both inspiration and proof of the region’s growing influence.

His consistency at club level mirrors the leadership he brings to the national team, the Uganda Cranes, where he remains a vital figure.

With Singida Black Stars now set to face some of Africa’s most competitive sides, Aucho will be hoping to guide his new club deep into the tournament – and perhaps write another unforgettable chapter in his decorated career.
