Napoli’s joy at beating Inter Milan 3-1 to reclaim the Serie A lead has been tempered by a serious injury to midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.
The 34-year-old suffered a high-grade tear in his right thigh as he scored a penalty in the 33rd minute on Saturday.
The Belgium international, who joined on a free transfer from Manchester City in June, was immediately substituted and scans confirmed the injury.
De Bruyne, who has been a key player with four goals in eight league appearances, now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with the club offering no timeline for his return.
