JKL Lady Dolphins restored parity in the Women’s National Basketball League Finals after defeating JT Lady Jaguars 52-38 on Sunday evening at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
The defending champions, who lost Game One 69-52, responded with authority to level the best-of-seven series at 1-1.
Hope Agnes Akello and Brenda Ekone led from the front. Akello dominated both ends with 16 points, 21 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Ekone supported with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists as JKL regained their rhythm.
JKL started strong, taking the first quarter 11-6 through disciplined defense and composed shot selection.
The Jaguars briefly edged ahead 18-17 in the second quarter, but JKL’s experience showed as they closed the half 28-24 ahead. Their rebounding control and defensive communication kept the Jaguars’ perimeter shooters quiet.
The third quarter proved decisive. JKL extended their lead to 38-32 with Akello’s inside play dictating tempo, while every Jaguars run was met with an organised response.
Sarah Ageno and Aziida Nabayunga scored seven points for the Lady Jaguars each, while Sandra Ayikoru Wangeshi added six. The team shot only 2-for-25 from beyond the arc and missed 12 of 18 free throws.
The win breathes new life into the series. Both teams will return tomorrow, Tuesday, October 28, for Game Three at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, live on NBS Sport.
JKL will aim to build momentum, while JT must rediscover the offensive efficiency that earned them victory in the opener.
