The San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder both stretched their season-opening winning streaks to four games on Monday, a night dominated by a historic 51-point performance.
Rookie Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 24 points in a 121-103 victory over the Toronto Raptors.
The Thunder also stayed perfect, getting 23 points from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to hold off the Dallas Mavericks 101-94.
The biggest individual story belonged to Lauri Markkanen of the Utah Jazz, who exploded for a career-high 51 points to secure a 138-134 overtime win against the Phoenix Suns.
It was the Jazz’s first 50-point game since Karl Malone in 1998.
Elsewhere, Tyrese Maxey scored 43 points to power the Philadelphia 76ers past the Orlando Magic 136-124, earning the team their third straight win despite the absence of Joel Embiid.
The Chicago Bulls also claimed their third successive victory, beating the Atlanta Hawks 128-123.
