Ugandan striker Sadat Anaku has officially taken his talents to the United States, signing a two-year contract with Hartford Athletic, a side that competes in the USL Championship, the second-highest tier of football in the American system.
The Connecticut-based club swooped in for Anaku after the forward ended his stint with KCCA FC at the conclusion of last season. Though rumours had strongly linked him with a switch to URA FC, the 23-year-old opted for a fresh challenge abroad instead.
Anaku’s story traces back to 2016, when he first burst onto the scene with KCCA’s junior team while studying at Kibuli Secondary School.
He quickly became a household name in youth football circles, rewriting the FUFA Juniors League record books by scoring an astounding 83 goals in just 52 appearances, a record that remains unmatched to this day.
His performances earned him a well-deserved promotion to the KCCA FC senior team in 2019, where he hit the ground running, notching six goals in 17 matches during his debut season.
His eye for goal, combined with blistering pace and sharp movement, made him one of the most promising young forwards in Ugandan football.
The left-footed marksman is no stranger to life abroad. He previously spent time with Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership, an experience that added a layer of maturity and tactical awareness to his game, qualities that will serve him well as he adapts to the North American style of play.
By signing for Hartford Athletic, Anaku becomes the latest Ugandan to join the growing wave of players making their mark in the U.S., following in the footsteps of Bobosi Byaruhanga, Allan Oyirwoth, Ibrahim Kasule, and Steven Sserwadda. Together, they continue to fly the Ugandan flag high across the Atlantic.
