Tottenham Hotspur has confirmed a fresh injury blow with midfielder Lucas Bergvall suffering a concussion during the 1-0 derby loss to Chelsea on Saturday.
Head coach Thomas Frank confirmed the diagnosis, stating, “That was a concussion,” and praised his medical team for immediately withdrawing the player despite Bergvall’s strong protestations to stay on the pitch.
The injury was sustained early in the match when Enzo Fernandez’s clearing volley struck the Swedish international in the head.
Bergvall now faces a mandatory period on the sidelines and is expected to miss several critical upcoming matches:
UEFA Champions League: Home to FC Copenhagen (Tuesday)
Premier League: Home to Manchester United (Next weekend)
The timing is unfortunate as the team faces a punishing schedule this month, including the North London derby against Arsenal and a Champions League trip to Paris Saint-Germain after the international break.
The young player joins an already lengthy injury list that includes key players such as James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Yves Bissouma, deepening the selection crisis for Thomas Frank.
