Uganda’s push to professionalize Ludo has taken a major leap after ten referees earned Africa-level certification following an intensive Grade II training course designed to enhance the quality and integrity of officiating.
During the certification ceremony in Kampala, Uganda Ludo Association President, Hussein Kalule, also launched a new regulation booklet introducing updated rules, including the much-anticipated double dice system that will govern both local and international tournaments.
“We are committed to aligning Uganda with continental and global standards. These new regulations will guide fair play and modernize how the game is run,” Kalule said.
The rollout of the new rule book comes ahead of the Africa Ludo Championship slated for next month in Pretoria, South Africa. However, Uganda’s participation remains uncertain as the federation continues to grapple with funding challenges.
“As much as we are eager to compete, we are still facing resource limitations. We call upon stakeholders and partners to support Team Uganda to make the trip,” Kalule added.
In another development, Kamoga Tadeo was introduced as the new Patron of the Uganda Ludo Federation. He will serve a two-year term focused on mobilizing support, advocacy, and promoting the sport’s growth nationwide.
The twin milestones—the referee certification and the launch of new regulations—signal a decisive step in Uganda’s mission to raise its standards and strengthen its position within continental Ludo circles.
