Lakers guard Luka Doncic has surpassed two franchise legends, Jerry West and Kobe Bryant, to set a new record for the most points scored through the first four games of an NBA season.
In the Lakers’ 130-120 win over the Miami Heat on Sunday, Doncic dropped 29 points, bringing his total to 165 points through four games in the 2025-26 season.
This phenomenal start breaks Jerry West’s 56-year-old record of 154 points (1969-70) and eclipses Kobe Bryant’s 146 points (2005-06).
Doncic is averaging 41.3 PPG and is on pace to challenge Elgin Baylor’s single-season record. His backcourt partner, Austin Reaves, is also off to a historic start with 143 points through four games.
The Lakers (5-2) head to Portland on Monday to face the Trail Blazers. Despite their hot shooting (77 points in the first half), Doncic said the team could have scored more: “We could have had like 150 points, honestly, if me and AR hit some shots.”
