A football agent has been arrested in London on suspicion of threatening a Premier League footballer with a firearm, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed.
The incident, described as a “horrendous” ordeal for the player involved, occurred on 6 September. Police were called at 23:14 BST following reports that a man had been threatened with a gun.
The player, who is in his 20s and cannot be legally named, was reportedly targeted in London. His club is aware of the situation. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
The accused, a 31-year-old agent, was arrested on 8 September on suspicion of three offenses: possession of firearms with intent, blackmail, and driving without a license.
In addition to the Premier League footballer, another man was allegedly blackmailed and threatened by the same individual during the incident.
The Metropolitan Police is continuing its investigation, and the agent has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
