Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has stepped in to fund the medical care for any club supporters injured in a mass stabbing attack on a train from Doncaster to London on Saturday.
The LNER train was carrying many London-based Forest fans back home following their 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
Eleven people were injured, with two currently remaining in a life-threatening condition.
Marinakis stated that the club is “shocked and deeply saddened” by the incident, but praised the “courage and selflessness” of the supporters who intervened.
“We will make sure any supporter caught up in this incident receives whatever financial support they require to enable them to access the best possible medical care,” Marinakis pledged.
An eyewitness fan, Alistair Day, described the scene as people appeared with blood on them, realizing, “Oh, bloody hell, this is not good.”
The club offered heartfelt sympathy and recognized the “extraordinary bravery” of individuals who helped prevent greater harm.
