Graham Potter has named his first Sweden squad for the World Cup qualifiers, including Liverpool’s Alexander Isak but omitting new Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres.
Gyokeres, who joined Arsenal in July, is out amid concerns of a hamstring injury sustained in the Gunners’ recent Premier League win over Burnley and missed Tuesday’s Champions League match. He is due for further tests this week.
Despite a groin problem that has sidelined him since October 22nd, Isak has been selected for the matches against Switzerland (November 15) and Slovenia (November 18).
Potter, appointed to the Sweden post on a short-term basis after leaving West Ham, also included Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall and Newcastle’s Anthony Elanga.
Sweden is currently bottom of Group B, making automatic World Cup qualification impossible, but they still have an outside chance of reaching the play-offs.
