Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put has signed a new contract with FUFA to continue as the tactician in charge of the senior national team.
The deal ends speculation over his possible exit, with strong links previously connecting him to African giants Cameroon.
Put’s previous two-year contract expired on November 2, and he has now agreed to an improved deal for the next two and a half years.
Speaking to the media at a press conference at Kadiba Stadium on Thursday morning, Put shared his vision for the team’s future.
“When you sign a new contract, it definitely means you are happy, and that’s exactly how I feel.”
“The last two years have been a great journey, full of positives and lessons, with the ambition to improve the team.”
“We are not yet where we want to be, but we are progressing towards that goal.”
“Over this period, let’s work together for bigger achievements.”
Beyond the senior Cranes, Put also manages the U23 team, and he has shown a strong focus on local talent, selecting players from domestic leagues to strengthen the squad.
Under his first spell, the Cranes have achieved key milestones.
Qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, a tournament he helped the team reach since 2019.
Reached the CHAN quarterfinals for the first time, after advancing from the group stage as co-hosts.
Produced their best-ever World Cup qualifying campaign, narrowly missing out on the playoffs.
Looking ahead, AFCON 2027 is set to be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, and Put is determined to cement his legacy as the right man to lead the Cranes into such a major tournament.
