Ferrari chairman John Elkann has publicly rebuked drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, telling them they “need to focus on driving and talk less.”
The harsh comments follow a disastrous double retirement at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, which saw Ferrari drop to fourth in the constructors’ championship.
The weekend prompted Hamilton to call his maiden season with the team a “nightmare.”
Speaking in Rome, Elkann praised the mechanics but stressed that the rest of the team was “not up to scratch,” warning the drivers that the team must focus on the remaining races to fight for second place, which is worth millions in prize money.
Elkann emphasized that the team achieves results “When Ferrari is united.”
The public criticism comes as Ferrari has yet to win a race this season, following a near-championship run last year.
