Mbarara City have parted ways with head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa after a poor run of results that left the club second from bottom in the Uganda Premier League.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the club confirmed that Mugerwa and his entire technical team had been relieved of their duties with immediate effect.
“Mbarara City FC can confirm that a decision has been taken to relieve Simon Peter Mugerwa of his duties as Head Coach. The other members of his technical team have also been relieved of their duties,” the statement read.
The decision follows a difficult start to the 2025/26 campaign, where Mbarara City remain winless after six matches.
The team has managed only two points from two draws and four defeats, leaving them 15th on the table, just above bottom-placed Calvary.
Mbarara’s two draws came against Police and BUL, both ending 1–1, while their four losses include a 0–1 defeat to UPDF, a 2–3 loss to Kitara, a 0–1 setback against NEC, and a 1–4 thrashing by Express.
Mugerwa, a CAF A licensed coach, joined Mbarara City in August, replacing Charles Livingston Mbabazi who was dismissed before the end of last season.
His appointment came four months after leaving Police, where he had guided the club to the 2023/24 FUFA Big League title and promotion to the top flight.
Before his stint at Police, Mugerwa worked with several clubs including Fire Masters, SC Villa as assistant coach, Soltilo Bright Stars where he served both as assistant and interim head coach, and Proline as head coach.
He also holds an impressive record in the Masaza Cup, leading Bulemeezi to the 2019 title and Busiro to the 2022 championship.
His departure marks the third managerial exit in the Uganda Premier League this season, following the dismissals of Hussein Mbalangu from NEC and Jimmy Kintu Mwera from Calvary.
