Wolverhampton Wanderers have appointed former defender Rob Edwards as their new manager on a three-and-a-half-year contract.
He replaces Vitor Pereira, who was sacked on November 2nd.
Edwards joins the bottom-of-the-table Premier League club from Championship side Middlesbrough, where he had been head coach since June, leaving them second in the league. Wolves agreed to a compensation package after their initial approach was rejected.
Edwards has strong ties to Molineux, having played 111 times for the club (2004–2008) and previously served as a youth coach.
Wolves chairman Jeff Shi praised Edwards, stating he “knows the club very well” and is “very talented.”
Harry Watling joins Edwards from Middlesbrough as assistant head coach. Middlesbrough confirmed they reluctantly agreed to the move after Edwards expressed he was “keen to join Wolves.”
