Uganda’s U17 national football team, the Cubs, will face Senegal in the round of 32 at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar. The match is set for Saturday, November 15, at 3:30 pm at Aspire Zone in Doha.
The fixture comes after Uganda’s historic qualification from Group K, where they edged France 1–0 in their final group match.
Forward James Bogere, who also scored Uganda’s first-ever World Cup goal earlier in the tournament, struck in the 18th minute against France to seal the country’s first victory at any FIFA World Cup.
The win placed Uganda among the best third-placed teams, earning them a knockout berth in their debut appearance at the global stage. The Cubs had opened their campaign with a 2–1 loss to Canada before drawing 1–1 with Chile.
Their next opponents, Senegal, have emerged as one of the most consistent African teams at this level.
The West Africans topped Group C with seven points after drawing 0–0 with Croatia, beating Costa Rica 1–0, and then thrashing the UAE 4–0. They are yet to concede a goal in the tournament.
Senegal are making their third appearance at the FIFA U17 World Cup, following campaigns in 2019 and 2023, both of which ended at the round of 16. Uganda, on the other hand, are enjoying their maiden.
The winner of the match between Uganda and Senegal will face either Germany or Burkina Faso in the next round.
