Formula 1 team Racing Bulls have apologised after a staff member appeared to make a repeated thumbs-down gesture at McLaren’s Lando Norris as he celebrated his victory at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
A video circulating on social media showed the uniformed employee, while filming the podium celebrations, turning to fans and repeatedly making the negative gesture before another team member intervened.
Racing Bulls quickly released a statement, saying the action “doesn’t reflect our team’s values or the spirit,” and stressed their belief in showing respect to all competitors and fans.
The team confirmed the matter has been “handled internally.”
Norris’s win further extends his lead in the drivers’ championship.
