England manager Thomas Tuchel admitted that Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and captain Harry Kane cannot all start together in the current 4-3-3 system due to tactical imbalance.
The selection dilemma stems from Tuchel reclassifying Foden as a “mix between a number nine and a 10,” putting him in direct competition with Bellingham for the single attacking midfield role behind striker Kane.
The number 10 position is fiercely contested, also featuring Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer.
Tuchel stressed that he will make “tough decisions” based on what is best for the team’s balance and winning, rather than individual merit.
England faces upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania this week.
