The Netherlands virtually sealed their spot at the 2026 World Cup finals after a crucial 1-1 draw against rivals Poland in Warsaw on Friday.
The draw keeps Ronald Koeman’s side three points clear atop Group G, heading into the final fixtures with a decisive 13-goal advantage in goal difference.
Poland took the lead just before halftime when Robert Lewandowski assisted Jakub Kamiński (43′) who slotted through Bart Verbruggen’s legs.
But the Dutch responded quickly after the break. Memphis Depay (47′) scored from a rebound after a Donyell Malen header was saved, extending his national scoring record to 55 goals.
Depay’s strike means the Netherlands only need a point at home against Lithuania on Monday to formally qualify.
Poland, who are guaranteed a play-off place, would need an improbable goal difference swing of 13 goals to overtake the Dutch.
