Uganda continue their debut FIFA U17 World Cup run today with a knockout match against Senegal at Aspire Zone Pitch 7 in Doha, kicking off at 3:30 PM local time.
The Cubs enter the Round of 32 after claiming their first ever World Cup win, a one nil result against France that secured one of the best third place finishes in the group stage.
Coach Brian Ssenyondo has pointed to the team’s discipline and growing maturity as the foundation of their progress, noting that the group has handled the pressure of the tournament with composure.
Their next test is substantial. Senegal arrive as one of the tournament’s most consistent African sides, having topped Group C with seven points and no goals conceded.
The Lions Cubs of Teranga have also appeared at this level before, giving them an experience edge as they head into the knockout phase.
For Uganda, a win would push them into uncharted territory and extend a historic debut campaign. For Senegal, anything short of victory would be a surprise given their strong opening round.
The winner of today’s match will meet either Germany or Burkina Faso in the Round of 16.
