Former Chelsea and Brazil international midfielder Oscar has been discharged from hospital after being admitted last week due to a heart issue experienced during pre-season training.
The 34-year-old was undergoing physical testing at Brazilian club Sao Paulo’s training centre last Tuesday when he became unwell and was subsequently admitted to the Einstein Hospital Israelita.
Sao Paulo confirmed on Sunday that Oscar had left the hospital, noting he was “stable and clinically well” throughout his stay.
“Extensive investigation carried out at the hospital confirmed that the player experienced an episode of vasovagal syncope,” the club stated.
Vasovagal syncope is a common form of fainting triggered by a sudden, temporary drop in blood pressure and heart rate.
The club added that the veteran midfielder “will now follow a medical rest programme for the next few days” as a measure of precaution.
Oscar, who began his career with Sao Paulo, returned to the club last year on a three-year deal that runs until 2027. This move followed an eight-year stint playing in China after his high-profile spell with Chelsea.
