Erling Haaland ensured Norway will play in their first major tournament since Euro 2000, leading the nation to the 2026 World Cup finals with a sensational qualifying campaign.
The 25-year-old Manchester City striker scored a crucial second-half brace in Norway’s 4-1 victory over Italy on Sunday, securing their spot in North America next summer.
Haaland finished World Cup qualifying as the top scorer across all continents with a staggering 16 goals in just eight games, scoring in every match.
Captain Martin Ødegaard also played a key role, leading European qualifying with seven assists.
Norway, who last reached a World Cup in 1998, secured a perfect record in the group stage.
Haaland, who has scored 55 goals in 48 caps for his country, said he was “more relieved” than happy to deliver for his nation. His qualification ensures he avoids the list of all-time greats who never reached a World Cup.
