Iganga United Shock Wakiso Giants as Blacks Power Strengthen Lead

Iganga United delivered the standout result of the FUFA Big League weekend after a late 1 to 0 win over Wakiso Giants on Sunday at Iganga Ssaza Grounds.

The game looked set to end goalless until Simon Euku struck in the 89th minute, giving the hosts a dramatic victory and halting Wakiso’s push back to the top of the table.

The loss leaves Baker Mbowa’s team on 14 points, dropping to second place and level with Nebbi Central, who also reached 14 points after a 2 to 1 win over Kiyinda Boys.

Blacks Power stayed in control of the promotion race with a 2 to 1 comeback win against Ntugasaze at Ebenezer University Grounds in Lira. James Jarieko put the visitors ahead early, but the response from the leaders was steady and composed.

Pascal Irasa levelled the score before Emmanuel Okech completed the turnaround, sealing Blacks Power’s fourth straight home victory and pushing them to 18 points. The win extends their advantage at the top to four points.

Other Sunday fixtures saw Bright Stars beat Mbale Heroes 2 to 0, Paidha Black Angels defeat Kaaro Karungi 2 to 0, Nebbi Central overcome Kiyinda Boys 2 to 1, and Young Elephant edge Bunyaruguru United 1 to 0.

On Saturday, CATDA held on for a tight 1 to 0 win over Kataka. Thursday’s matches ended with Onduparaka drawing 1 to 1 with Kiyinda Boys, while Nebbi Central and Kigezi Homeboyz finished level.

The FUFA Big League returns next week as teams continue the early contest for promotion.
